CEDAR & BIRCH BARK SAMPLES

MINIATURE MODELS

CEDAR & BIRCH BARK SAMPLES

These cedar and birch tree bark samples are an exploration in texture and style. Both samples are made of clay layered on cardboard tubing. The cedar bark sample is intended to be a realistic representation of the tree, whereas the birch tree sample is a more whimsical and stylized interpretation.

The texture of the cedar bark sample was created by pressing the edge of a palette knife and bristles of a paintbrush into the damp clay. To create the birch bark, I rolled out clay cylinders of varying sizes, adhered them to the cardboard, and used a palette knife to imprint the remaining texture. Once the clay of both samples had dried, I painted them and applied moss detail.
