REALISTIC OREGON WHITE OAK TREE

REALISTIC OREGON WHITE OAK TREE

Based on the Oregon White Oak trees I grew up with, this oak was constructed using a 1:50 scale. It’s skeleton is made of wire adhered to cardboard tubing. I then connected the armature to a foam core base and covered it in Sculptamold, using it to shape the trunk and roots.

I wrapped the damp Sculptamold with strips of purple crepe paper to create bark texture and sealed it using Mod Podge. As this dried, I wrapped the branches with floral tape to secure them and increase their width. I then wrapped the branches with crepe paper and sealed them with Mod Podge.

Once dry, I painted the tree and applied model foliage to the branch ends. To finish, I applied a light coat of clear spray adhesive and added moss to the leaves and bark of the tree.
